  1. You should also bear in mind that the MS-1s are OPEN headphones. people will be able to hear what you're listening to even at low volumes. At the same time, you'll hear noise from the outside as well....
  2. you should consider the other mylars as well - bang-for-the-buck. anyway, jaben carries most (all except Shures I think) of the IEMs mentioned above. Why don't you just drop by and spend some quality time with the IEMs there? Set yourself a budget and go listen... most importantly adhere to the rule that if you don't any difference.. get the cheaper one. and i personally believe our dear 'uncle' will advise you accordingly
  3. The Meier Porta's a pretty decent amp. Can I suggest just buying a pair of IEMs? IEMs give you clarity but it's (IMHO) too linear sounding, unlike full size headphones.
  4. Since your setup's NADs. Perhaps you'd like to stick with NADs as well? You mentioned that you listen to a lot of jazz. Could you be a little more precise too? What sort of jazz? Vocals? Instrumental? I've got the 640c v2. I'd say that it's an excellent player. Perhaps not as 'musical' as some other players.. but next to the 840c, it definitely has some warmth. The 840c is more punchy. Maybe you should take that into consideration in fitting a player into your system.
  5. Most of the Marantz has headphones line-out. Cheapest one starts at slightly <$300 I think giving us a budget helps load.
  6. Hello I'm not sure if this is the place to start this thread.. but is there anyone out there with a DV336i who'll be kind enough for me to try? I'm interested in getting it... but am a little uncertain about synergy with my cans... thx in advance
  7. Hello Anyone with a good condition desktop headphone amplifier and is willing to part with it for a reasonable price, pls sms me at 91791057. I'm looking at the DV 336i, GS-1, Stello HP100, MAD+, Heed , X-Can V2/V3 etc. For some reason, I'd really like to try tubes, but SS's fine. However, I'm not interested in the cayins/LDs. Cheers
  8. i was at adelphi on Sunday. (bad day to go.. most shops were closed). anyway, most of the shops on the ground floor and basement carries the marantz CD5001 - check them out =)
  9. that's about S$135. might as well get them locally right? support local headphone community =) or u can buy 2nd hand classified
  10. Hmm... obviously people who patron B&O has never heard of brands like Samsung huh? The problem with too much money... haihz... i wish i could too
  11. I bought some of the cheap CDs at HMV before... especially those 6CDs collection sort of thing..SQ's cannot quite make it. makes a whole load of difference... especially with good CD players. Imagine how it'd sound after compressions.... If you'd like to explore the world of vocals/jazz.. i'd say "audiophile voices" will be a good starting point. if you want instrumental jazz, there's plenty. you can try FourPlay. They've been around for ages. Then there's also Tower of Power. If you like blues guitar, please get Keb Mo. Fantastic
  12. Actually, maybe the OP should listen to other brands of full size headphones. Personally i think the grados and allesandros are pretty good with vocals. But if one listens to a senn/bayer/AT.. it'll provide a different sound signature.. bigger soundstage etc... So please do not limit yourself to just a pair of headphones
  13. that's a lot to pay for a player that's "based on last year's Samsung YP-Z5 and includes a customized version of that player's software"
  14. Hmm... has anyone ever tried listening to the grado's and Alessadro's without any pads? I mean, i always thought that that's what happens when they do the quarter-mod (in our case, it guess it's a 50 cents mod. haha) Perhaps the difference between the flats and the modded comfies is that the material's different, and the comfies probably will "absorb" some of the sound? I'm not too sure.. just trying to make an educated guess.. hahha
  15. Hmmm... i guess we normally'd have to pay a price for good stuffs. high quality = huge space needed. I guess you can either buy a new player with a bigger storage space or use relatively better compression e.g. 320kbps Anyway, i'd recommend mp3 format because it's more "universal"
  16. Ergh... looking for an amp at the moment. Your review's making me drool... hehe. any change of trying?
  17. There's only that many shops in Singapore.... http://www.sgheadphones.net/index.php?showtopic=60 Happy searching.
  18. Don't need any amp at the moment? Those HD600s are pretty hard to drive arent they? Anyway, no offense.. but i'm extra weary when it comes to China-made goods = need more assurance. Any other comments/reviews?
  19. Yup. You'll definitely need to try them out. Used to think that cables are just... well.. cables. Boy, did my impression change. If possible, do bring your gears down too when you try.
  20. When you purchase your IEMs, remember to try them with the foam tips. Most of the time it gives the best fit and SQ. (but you'll have to change it once in a short while... and it gets kinda gross over time) you'll find the "missing" bass in the etys
  21. Hmm... that's quite scary actually. you listen to music pretty loud huh? anyway, you did not specidically mention wanting headphones. Would you consider IEMs? You won't need an amp to drive them to incredibly loud volumes.. and a lot of portable (you are looking for portables... rite?)
  22. Ermm... your DAP can't drive the MS-1? But they're just 32ohms you know.... Hmm...
  23. We'll also have to consider the fact that the way CDPs read the CDs is rather different from the PC's CD/DVD-rom. On the other hand, there are some CDPs that are using CD-roms as part of their transports...
  24. That depends doesn't it? If a person has an 80g ipod. well... lossless or 320kbps or even wave wouldn't hurt
