hmm ... i agreed with mackie ... you cannot compare a full CDP to a PCDP. ya must understand that it will sound very different b'cos the DAC is very different ! and they have very different sound house .. tell you i own the sony D-777 it is a great PCDP but it still lose to a Actual CDP (marantz CD6000OSE) ... come on think of the size !!! ( price is not a major factor between a CDP and PCD but the budget ! )

marantz 5400 or 6000 OSE you can also try to get second hand which is cheaper

hehee ... well i suggest that you think carefully before buying ... it would cost a lot more in the future when the upgrade bug bits you .... But i dont understand what you mean by "wanting to get a portable system for my room and private listening." If you intend to be portable in term of moving around the room .. i would said tube amp are not likely you would get ... as they need to be power by AC power. intead you can hunt around for GOOD portable amps and a good heaphone for it .. IF Or you are saying that you will have proper home rig which includes a CDP and Full amp and a good cans !! i think you can consider Mackie recommendation Or in the portable home rig way Etc;porta corda 2 and lots more .... ! happy finding ! !note! that Porta corda can drive 250ohm cans without any problem !!

i think you better use a mini compo or a tuner set to run in your cans as by using the CDP it will shorten your CDP lens life.

ya now HIMD is in Singapore the cheapest cost around $$560+++( if i am not wrong ) ... you can check it out at any sony stores or SLS maybe you can get cheaper from SLS ... but come to this price i feel (IMHO) you should get HDD Storage player in team of cost and space allows as HDD devices store more music lass a need to carry MD disc everywhere you go ! but for sound wise you better try it yourself as i had not heard any HIMD before and i think you can try out the Sony store @ orchard in WISMA ATRIA located @ the top level beside the foodcourt ( b'cos i saw the sale person allow a customers to try out the discman on the display section! ) CHEERS N_T
