  1. why 2 different brands of caps and not one same brand for the mod? is there a reason for the Cerafines in that location instead of the FCs
  2. i was hoping u'll be the first to get the ATH-ES5 and let us know how it sounds anyway the PX200 is also a good headphone
  3. i'm begining to like the way tube amps looks anyone from SGH with a DIY tube headamp?
  4. nice & tight should be able to fit it into a mid-size aluminium Hammond
  5. looks fierce...what is it?
  6. for portable and stylish, can consider the new Koss KSC-75, its a clip-on phone, price is $49 @ Hung Bros but can't comment on the sound cause i never tried it another new headphone that looks good is the Audio Technica ATH-ES5, its a closed phone so isolation should be quite good and knowing A-T who makes moslty closed cans, this might be the answer to the PX100 sound and PX200's isolation qualities price is $99 also @ Hung
  7. mackie, i see that the new DT660 is a closed design, most of the Beyers are open design, how does this (660) compare to the rest? does it still hav the "Beyer sound" i had the chance to audition the DT860 when it first arrive at Hung Bros, but it was a brief audition, just remember it sounded similar to the HD600 but both were new out of the box, the new Beyers feels a lot more "solid" in terms of built quality while the HD600 feels very "plastic" i'm considering an upgrade from my DT331 after i modded the cables...the new cables giv the cans a better soundstage and the bass is more evident, starting to enjoy Beyer more the DT860 may be overkill for me, so i'm looking more at 440 & 660 hav u a-b these 2 headphones? maybe u can do a review of the 3 new cans
  8. Koss KSC-75 : $49 @ Hung Bros Audio Technica ATH-ES5 : $99 @ Hunn Bros i hav taken a closer look at the KSC-75 today, this let me to thinking if the driver on the KSC-75 has the same catch as the porta-pro they look like it can be snaped out of the ear hooks...anyone with the KSC-75 can confirm? Mod answers: U should raise this query in an existing thread dedicated to KSC75. Yes, the entire clip can be unhinged at the pivot point in the center of the driver. However, this would only occur if it's intentional as the clips of 75 is aluminium and easily bent to fit your ears (like bending those of spectacles) and unlike the 35s' clips that will come unhinged if bent excessively.
  9. i hav not audition this headphone will like to try it when i hav the chance, for the price ($99) hope it can at least sound as good as PX100, if i remember correctly...it says "made in Japan" at the back, should be quite well built...don't think it will break easily
  10. so it will follow the second version layout but with single channel opamp for ground rite?
  11. maybe it better/easier to hav a few mini meets rather then a bigger annual meet...seems like lots of people not able to make the meet...
  12. very cool i think u'll beat me to the goal of "PPA in a tin" project also...are u a surgeon we should restart the contest that was placed here a while back before the server crash and the forum was lost for a month... smallest Cmoy u can built it'll be fun, one rule...cannot be ectched PCB using surface mount components
  13. anyone tried or seen the Philips HG100... interesting looking headset, it has some kind of "vibrator" attached to the headset & place at the back of your head when u wear them i hav check with my supplier on the price of this headset, and they turn out to be more expensive then the Senn PC150
  14. i'm not quite sure how the adjustments on this headphone works, according to the mustached uncle at hung, its different from normal headphones, from what i can make out, it seems there's not "slider" rather the drivers rotates to giv different height, and u can fold it flat like Senn PX100 & PX200 comes in a very nice looking black box, being priced between the PX100 & PX200, i think this headphone will giv the Senns a run for their money
  15. there are 2 colors, all black & black with silver
  16. saw the new ES5 "earsuit" from Audio Technica today they can be found at Hung Bros, list price $99 ES5 details
  17. will how is your hd595 sounding now? i hav left my playing on a pocket radio for about 5 to 6 days the 595 seems to hav finally "come to life" or showing signs of its true colors and i'm currently very pleased with the results the slight veil or muffered sound seems to hav dissapeared, and the bass extension goes down deeper and lower then before, it does not hav the "kick" of grado but is really smooth sounding still waiting for your more detailed impressions of the 595
  18. i think jason is making some final changes/adjustments to a final version of the board this should be ver 3.0 with inputs from many people here, hopefully this will be the last change the price of the completed amp may not be as low as we had hope for...but that is still subjective to individual builder and parts used, for example, the desktop case that i used for the ver 2.0 board is already $15, together with a transformer + regulated PSU, thats about $30++ more if using better transformer.
  19. yes it is shape like a tank if i turn the transformer 90 degrees, the side panels can't cover the amp, its too tight... so far i don't hear any hum, the side panels actually hav wood patterns, i was thinking of making my own panels with real wood always wanted a wooden amp...
  20. finally finish mounting the ver 2.0 board in a case, but this time i wanted to a desktop amp for my pc found this nice little case in SLS, has just enough room to house the transformer, regulated power PCB & the amp itself, but its a tight fit though back view here u can see how tight it is to fit everything into the case, the case is aluminium hope this will help with the heat problem of the amp, still listening to make sure the heat does not affect its performance this case has a slight slope/angle on the front panel, which looks nice, but makes mounting of the board a problem, i had to bent the fins of the heatsink on the PSU board to make room for the board which is also pressing against the tranformer...so far this does not seem to be affecting the amp itself a shot of the amp on my desk together with my main PC cost of the aluminium case : $15

    Amp.

the pmillett hybrid looks complicated is there a more simple tube amp for first time builders?
  22. tropicalrips

    Amp.

does that mean it will still hav opamp in the circuit? a hybrid amp?

    Amp.

very nice huangyong, can it drive passive speakers? is there any simple tube headphone amp designs? is it possible to make a headphone amp with just 1 tube? i hav never try a tube amp before...know nuts about building one but i'm game to try is it going to blow up in my face if i get it wrong?
  24. but it did not sound like the gain was only 1.03...and it was close to my dream sound my DT331 sounded very good on those "wrong values" what about the heat problem? even with the correct values, the opamps still heats up more then my Cmoy & A47... is it too late to change the design? go with the more conventional A47 design...using 2nd opamp to buffer the first, instead of the 2 opamps buffering itself on the 2nd channel, i think the opamps buffering itself may be whats causing the heat & osillation
  25. i hav tried 47ohm on output of my amps, its fine for lower impedance headphones (grado) but with Senns they sound muffered, which is why i use 42r for the new board. most of my other DIY amps do not hav the output resistor, at gain of 6 it still sounds ok with lower impedance cans, but if increase gain to 8 or higher, can hear noise, sound like radio or static
