  2. But your profile already has the Omega 2??
  3. hey maybe we can start a NUS meet. I have another fren who might be interested if the meet starts during school term.
  4. Heavy metal with female opera singer
  5. thanks for informing!
  6. My computer refuses to start without a Belden power cord.
  7. Headroom has a new range of amps and dac. One which is very interesting is the micro amp with micro dac which is US$600 together which is approx S$1000. You only need a PCDP with digital out and great sound in the bedroom, on the move or beside a computer! The DAC supports USB and SPDIF digital in. http://www.headphone.com/products/headphon...the-micro-line/ But I heard the waiting times are very long. If you already have a good source in your bedroom then you may consider conventional amps. DIY ones would include clone RA1, PPA, M3, Gilmore Dynalo or Dynahi. The last 4 amps are the more popular ones in Headfi which will cost around S$1000. For commercial amps, the others may offer better advice.
  8. I have 2 cdr compilations of all the reference tracks I want. Some albums that are featured includes Massive Attack Mezzanine, Jeff Buckley Grace, Pink Floyd The Wall and various jazz tracks.
  9. If you have a lower end headphone, I suggest you save up your money to get a higher end headphone before getting an amp. It is also preferable to have a good source first before getting an amp or else it will be 'Garbage In, Garbage Out'. Let's say you have a good headphone and a good source, then for the price of $300, i suggest you go for DIY. For example RA1 clone, PIMETA or CMOY etc. If you have a good headphone amplifier, then a good cd player will be better appreciated. For me, I feel that source makes a bigger difference than amps.

    E-MU 0404

Emu 0404 has 1/4" female jack for audio outputs. Most speakers have 1/8" male plug so I guess you need to get an adaptor for it or mod your speaker cables to 2 1/4" male plugs. For adaptors, you can get someone for DIY for you or you can go to LHS in SLT. You buy their cables and plugs and they will terminate for you free. Ask for 2 mono male 1/4" plug to a stereo female 1/8"

    XRCDs

Gramophone and New Disc Village carries XRCDs. So far I have 2 discs, both in the Jazz genre. For now, my impressions are mixed. I have the Bill Evans Waltz for Debby XRCD and the normal Bill Evans Live in Village Vanguard. Both of them are recorded in the same session in the same place. There is less of a static background noise and instruments tend to be more outstanding and clearer from a darker background from the XRCD. However, the overall tone is brighter than normal ( >10khz) which appears to give an airy atmosphere. It seems like the Japanese prefers brighter sound compared to other regions of the world. True, they are of a higher quality compared to the normal pressings if you do not mind the brightness/airiness it brings. The second disc I have is the Tsuyoshi Yamamoto Trio's Misty XRCD. This disc, like the Bill Evans XRCD, is also pretty bright/airy. Overall it sounds better than the Bill Evans disc due to it being a studio recording and not a live one. I do not have other CDs of the same band so I can't compare them. This album IMHO, is the best disc in my collection in terms of sound quality and one of the top musically too! I had the chance to hear this album way before I bought it. I do not have an SACD player. But from reviews from the net, it seems like SACD is just better than CDs if done properly. And XRCD is still a CD. Tsuyoshi Yamamoto Trio - Misty
  12. do inform us when they do! I couldn't find time to go down.
  13. yeap but that will be very expensive by the time it reaches singapore. it is selling for around 300 pounds.
  14. This is one reason I recommended the Beyers since he mentioned his favourites are female vocals and pianos. I'm not sure if Grado are the best cans for these genres, but they are certainly excellent rock cans which pack lots of punch. The best piano I heard was on MS2s. Sounds like you are sitting on the bench playing it yourself. That was on Glenn Gould's Goldberg Variation.
  15. http://www.hydrogenaudio.org is the site for all your encoding needs. You will find all your answers there. BTW the best ripper is EAC. For mp3, the best encoder is LAME. VBR is variable bit rate CBR is constant bit rate
  16. listening to silence at 40dB in the study area.
  17. Then how about those people who listen exclusively on computers with legitimate CDs? People who burn copies of CD to listen and keep the original for safe keeping?
  18. Anyone got a pair? Available in SG?
  19. I've my 4S for like 2 years already. Used them everyday without fail and removed the tips countless times but still appear fine to me. Changed the filter once only though. For the abuse they went through, i am amazed they still hold up very well. I guess it is more of a batch problem. My pair is very ancient (serial 4XXX)!

    Beyer DT-100s

I thought the DT150s is discontinued?
  21. Well, the photocopying analogy doesn't work here as that is a analog method while copying and burning cdr is a digital. There are some reasons as to why burned audio cd-rs may sound better. One of the reasons may be because pressings of the commercial cd is not exactly centred and may pose problems while reading. Burned audio cds should be perfectly centred and pits may be better defined. And there is the problem of CDr media with different dyes and reflective surfaces interacting differently with transports. Some of the older transport may not read certain CDr due to the above 2 reasons. My theory is that some CDr can sound better or sound worse depending on the type of CDr used and type of transport. Burning speed is also crucial to audio CDr. As I have recently found out, burning at lower speeds do not mean a better copy. I tried burning audio CDs using the same media at different speeds and found that the one burnt at higher speed (16X) can be read on a certain transport while one burnt at 4X cannot be read at all! Another problem is quality control while making the media itself. A CDr with the same dye and reflective surface is not exactly the same as the other CDr with the same specification but with different manufacturers. So some CDr are far inferior to others. So far I haven't had a destroyed CDr yet. Hopefully I won't have one in the future.
  22. Your bugs look really disgusting. Well done.
