Hobby at a standstill?? Kinda..

Recommended Posts

Well...most of time, I just listen to a favourite track over and over, with a particular pair of cans. Then, to test out some new ones, I just listen to the same thing. Being a different can, I can 'feel' a difference in the track. Gradually, through listening to it several times, I pick up the characteristics of that particular headphone. That's just my measuring stick.

For those of you with more audoiphile gear who think there no or very little difference try this:- after a month of listening to the much more expensive gear switch back to the cheeper gear. If you still feel the same way, thank your lucky stars, make an appointment with an ENT specialist ;-) and sell the high end gear.

As for me I just listened to a $20,000 amp partnered with a pair of $17,000 speakers and told this to my self: If I spend a few more hours here I'm goona hate my home setup when I get home. So I left.

Seriously, if you cant hear the difference, go for the cheaper stuff and save you wallet major damage.

As for me I'm in audiophile purgatory, cant afford the really good stuff but can definately hear the huge difference.

Anyone care to donate 70k to a needy cause? LOL

70K may not be enough. At least 200K is required, if you want a new TT and monoblocks.

Now we're going really far out. 200K or 20K, I doubt no singapore in the right mind would even want to pay $50 for a pair of earphones. I even heard friends who brag about their $999 "hi-fi" kenwood/pioneer systems. For people like remeish, he's lucky to be able to appreciate and experience the luxury of audiophiling. I wish I have that kinda money... happy.gif

I do agree that once you hear the "good" stuffs, it's hard to turn back. He's idea is pretty sound. It's a good idea to try out for a month and then compare it with a "cheaper" ones. But it's the difficult plunge of buying one usually. LOL. Expectations are doubled when they costs $50 more. And we find excuses to justify this and that. *sigh. I think blind tests and without know the price of an item is still the best way. No prejudice and expectations.

Just a question, how far out can we get as the discerning audiophile? Those 50~200K systems? How much more can I expect or should expect? I have had my share of experiencing pro/consumer based expensive stuffs here to justify the reasons for audiophiling, but I would like to know what more can I expect? Really look forward to "re-wowing" myself. laugh.gif

Some people have different taste of purchasing items.

From no amp to Cmoy2, there is a huge difference.

From Cmoy 2 to PPA. Small difference.

PPA to $10k amp. Can't hear difference liao.

If you're particular about spending little money and listen to a huge difference, then you would definately get a cheap amp.

My own theory. tongue.gif

I found out that my ear A weighted filter is very good. When music is louder, background noise become insignificant. So when a grade change in amp, very few difference. Doesn't include tube.

I also done a frequency test. I can hear up to 19.5kHz sine tone. If you turn it too loud, it's very pain to the ear.

Ego also play a part.

If you can get your hand on a $1000 piece of headphone. You sure feel good.

And later when you get a $2K headphone, you'll crap the $1K one. LOL.
