jojo_b2 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2009 Dear HD800 owners, I am considering buying a pair of HD800 and if I do, I would like to have upgraded cables which are "balanced" terminated. May I know if upgrading the cables requires skillful installation or can I simply buy the cables from one of the sellers on Head-Fi, unplug the stock cable and plug in the new cable myself (like what one can do to the HD650)? Thank you Yes you can buy an after market HD800 cable from thrid party resellers like those on head-fi. The connections to te HD800 can be removed easily. =) Btw, stereo might bring in APS cables. So you can wait nd actually try it out there. =)
Mr_G 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2009 (edited) Hi, Has anyone tried HD 800 with Graham Slee Solo. Appreciate your comments. Tks. Edited September 17, 2009 by Mr_G
ical 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2009 Kachui is using the system you mentioned. He has added a Diva pre M7 in between. http://www.sgheadphones.net/index.php?showtopic=9530&st=1965
Mr_G 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2009 Thanks Ical. I've given up my Hi-Fi setup (young kids and tube mono blocks don't go together) and have decided to try out headphones. I've also decided to purchase the HD800 and GS solo combo. I basically listen to records and GS is something I'm familiar with.
ical 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2009 You might want to look at other amps like SPL, EAR, DNA Sonett, Zana Deux or Woo Audio.
Kachui 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2009 (edited) You might want to look at other amps like SPL, EAR, DNA Sonett, Zana Deux or Woo Audio. X2 IMHO the Solo SRG alone does not do justice to the HD800, though it does a decent job, there are other amps that Cal mentioned that you may want to try out. I don't know about the new Solo SRGII though since I have not heard it...it comes with a new tweak that Graham Slee did to the Solo SRG that came out earlier this year, after suggestions from some users who wanted more bass out of the Solo. The Diva M7 that I added in between the CDP and Solo seemed to be an overkill or a redundancy, or even theoretically unsound...but hey, it works for my rig and to me, whatever works is fine with me. Just give them a visit they allow auditioning with the HP4. Unfortunately, the others on the list can only be bought outside of SG via Web for the three. But the do have some long reviews on head-fi.org The two retailers are the only official agents for the HD800 that I know of. But you can actually purchase the HD800 at the Senn office at Alexandra Road. =) On a side note, There is a Headphone meet being setup for the 4th October. Just look at the postings at the "home equipment" section. If you're free you can try some amps available at the meet. user 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2009 Hi, where can I get the Acoustic Revive QR-8 in Adelphi? Want to try if it can help to boost the bass of HD800 a bit...

DNA Sonett http://www.dnaudio.com/DNA-Sonett-headphone-amplifier.html you can order by emailing Donald here info@dnaudio.com The Sonett is a pretty new amp on the market and only comes in a very "cool" blue colour. Some user reviews from HeadFi http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f5/review-dn...dac-amp-444471/ http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f5/dna-sonet...essions-440645/ Woo Audio http://www.wooaudio.com/ Quite a few selections. Many pictures the various choices on the site as well as an order page. Zana Deux http://www.eddiecurrent.com/Zanadeux.html Craig has few 2 variations of the popular original Zana Deux : Zana Deux SE & the Zana Deux ZDT. And a wonderful new Balancing Act which is plenty powerful enough to drive most/any can. Bear in mind that the above amps are built to order if you're looking at new units and would take more than a few weeks to complete. There are also many other great amps out there... http://www.headamp.com/ http://raysamuelsaudio.com/ http://www.headphone.com/ http://www.rudistor.com/RPX100.htm http://www.meier-audio.homepage.t-online.de/ http://www.tokyosound.co.jp/sound/products/valvex/index.html http://www.musicalparadise.ca/mp/index.php...ru1g4o44sb2mud6 http://www.goldpt.com/index.html http://www.decware.com/newsite/CSP2.htm http://www.glow-audio.com/glowstuff.html http://www.lake-people.de/index.php?id=6〈=eng&typ=10 and so on and so on and so on.... too many to list. but the tube amp I'm most curious about now is this... http://www.nagraaudio.com/highend/pages/productsPLL.php Hi, where can I get the Acoustic Revive QR-8 in Adelphi? neutralzz 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2009 Thanks Ical. I've given up my Hi-Fi setup (young kids and tube mono blocks don't go together) and have decided to try out headphones. I've also decided to purchase the HD800 and GS solo combo. I basically listen to records and GS is something I'm familiar with. which tube monoblocks are you using now? an alternative is for you to just get a pair of proper pair of impedence matched output transformers and swop them in to drive your hd800. i'm currently having my output transformers customized for two taps, one 8 ohm for driver and one 300 ohm for headphones. my amp will be ready in a few days, so probably i m planning to loan the hd800 from sennheiser some day to see if it matches well. if it sounds good i'll share where i got it done from
