Where is biggest headphone store in Singapore ?
metalgear replied to blueyan's topic in Home Equipment
reasonable price? kinda rules out local stores if you asked me. -
The Marantz KI SACD player (not lite) has an excellent headphone out section...can drive some cans like the d7000 with aplomb.

Neutral Full Range Headphones - Suggestions please
metalgear replied to Pani's topic in Home Equipment
the shure 940 is noted for being a very neutral headphones if anyone is still interested in looking for one. as a rough indication, think somewhere inbetween akg701/2 and hd800. -
ps audio GCHA is also a very good amp... much like the lyr, without the crankiness of the tubes. drives up to 10 watts so can drive akg1000 and speakers. best its a digital amp (like bel canto) and doesn't have the harshness that solid state amps can bring to cans.

Question on Beyerdynamic T1 availability in Singapore
metalgear replied to bhanja_trinanjan's topic in Home Equipment
PS = Plaza Singapura Shopping Center -
same here kept the HD650 and K701 and K1000 but sold off the W5000. the W5000 had beguiling vocals but soundstage was a little to "tight" for me. its more about personal preference, I can see the W5000 hitting the sweet spot for those especially into female vocals. all these were amped by the GCHA, Singlepower MPX3 and at one time RS Raptor.

Looking to try the AKG K 1000. Pls PM me if you have one to sell. thanks.

Depends on your needs/requirements: - space- separates generally for better sound - budget - peanuts...monkeys - preferred aural experience - hi-fi, mid-fi or just music you'd be surprised at some good bargains in the used market if you picked them selectively to suit exactly your preferences.

good suggestion - i'd say its worth the risk as DACs aren't exactly fragile. look up head-fi for more reviews.
-
if you can, try to borrow an outboard DAC - you'd be surprised at the bang-for-buck benefits when starting with a basic player.
-
its certainly appealing as it has an auto circuit that detects 6v or 12v tubes - hence the higher running voltage allows it to be used against different headphone designs. from what i know in hifil, the best tube circuits are also the most direct and with the least complications to minimize noise. it remains to be seen if this new design can overcome that dilemma. judging from the price - it looks like its positioned as a 'mid-priced amp" relative to the Singlepower Product lineup.

Up for sale, 2 very highly reviewed headphone amps. Both are about a year old a) PS Audio GCHA $1100 (with nice carrying box, manual) RS Emmeline II The Raptor $1300 (no box, original stock tubes) Please PM your interest.
