Headphones for Portables

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, what models of headphones would you recommend for portable devices such as MP3 players or discmans? Basically headphones for on-the-go listening?

My friend asked me for recommendations for some headphone story she (obviously not an audiophile but neither am I) is writing, but I only know of brands like Grado, Sennheiser, Sony and Koss--dunno which models from these brand families. She's writing something like an audiophile recommendation for music on the go.

Can throw some suggestions this way so I can help her out? wink.gifinnocent.gif

She might want to include some canalphones: Shure E2/3/4/5, Etymotic Research ER-6/6i/4, Westone UM1/2.

Don't forget md33/ep- 630, Panasonic and sony yes.gif

As for the brands you mentioned, I've tried the sennheiser hd28pro and Koss k24p, both offer good isolation and pretty decent sound with reasonable impedances.

Yup, have already told her about the canal phones, I'm more familiar with those (waiting for my UM2 to arrive biggrin.gif )

But the Westones are not available in Singapore right? Only Shure and Etys.

Kube: Will pass on the hd28pro and k24p recommendations, thanks.

The MD33 is from Sharp, and the EP-630 is from Creative right? Panasonic would be the HJE50 and Sony would be the EX-71?

Any other headphones?

Thanks guys party.gif

imo the b&o A8 is only slightly better than the sony mdr e888, the 2 are pretty similar sounding to me, jus that A8 has a better fit in my ears and is smoother

She's writing something like an audiophile recommendation for music on the go.

I think she could easily write a few paragraphs on the what/how/why/when/...etc of an audiophile. laugh.gif

IMHO, an audiophile will wear a full-size cans on the streets even if it invite stare or looks frivolous. To him/her, sound is more important which he/she holds dear to her senses.

My recommendations are as follows (based on personal experience):

Beyer DT250 (80ohms)

Beyer DT770 (250ohms)...need amplification

Beyer DT831 (250ohms)...need amplification

Beyer DT660 (32ohms)

Sony MDR V6/7506

Notice all the above are closed designs?

geez...i'd still prefer canal or in-earphones instead of walking in the streets with those big cans around your ears...
