Chan_ryu 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 Apologies if I am hijacking the thread, but its also laptop related. Currently have the analogue signal from my Fujitsu lifebook running into either a Grado Ra-1 Clone or the analogue in of a Corda Aria. Thinking of ways I can improve the digital side of things, and here's what I can come up with so far: 1) Echo Audio Indigo (IO or DJ? I have no need for inputs, but dual output would be good since I have two amps) 2) Creative Audigy PCMCIA card (Is this really lousy for pure 2 channel audio compared to the Indigo) 3) M-Audio transit for the digital output + external DAC (prob hifi brand one) Of the 3, which would you guys choose? hi foxy, have u gotten yr Echo Indigo IO yet? hope to have a informal user review from u
Chan_ryu 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 Did you add in the tube sound plugin for foobar2000? that makes it sound really good. bro, the tube sound plugin adds more distortion and softens the clarity. IMO it kinda sucks when compared to a real tube amp.

stussyking 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2006 laptop setup ? headphones < headphone amp < (laptop onboard sound) ?? is there a better way that this ?
adhoc 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2006 I would advise everyone here to avoid using your laptop's headphone out as there will more than not likely be massive DC offset there. I have measured 3 computer headphone outs now: 1. IBM T41 notebook: 120mV(!)/80mV 2. Dell desktop: 45mV/320mV(!!!) 3. HP desktop: +70mV/+45mV
That dude 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2006 so it would be better to get a dedicated dac? Any recommendations?
ahdui 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2006 IMO, the tube amp plugin for foobar doesnt fits mi too. worsen the sound instead. cant blame it either, its a free emulated stuff. be contented for it.
adhoc 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2006 Most amplifiers nullify DC offset via coupling capacitors. You do not need a DAC to negate DC offset. All tubed amplifiers that have transformer coupled outputs (ie. not SET) will also work just as well.
Zakyn 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2006 Since we are on this topic, any feedback on ASIO. What are the benefits or cons per se. My understanding is that there should be no cons unless of course, your soundcard does not support or can't use it.
