N@Z 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2003 Let's not get into the practical issues of LP vs CDP (I smell a new thread, anyone?), different folks different strokes similarly like when comparing sound quality. Plus the original question was on CDP.
gryphon1972 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2003 AND the interesting thing is the Linn LP12, their very old but still made/supported vinyl playback turntable sounds better than the CD12! A fully loaded LP12 will only run you about half that of the CD12 along with a good phono stage... hmm fish.....auz has turned you into the dark side?? Firefox 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2003 Nothing actually. I'm quite happy with the Rotel RCD-971 as a CD Player. Hehehe... The one I kinda "fixed"? Must have a try at it soon. *grinz*

matbon0013 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2003 (edited) Subjectively speaking! Physically vinyl and CD looks different, can we leave it as that? p.s. If you've got time I'll illustrate.......... Edited July 18, 2003 by matbon0013

heowcw 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2003 Hi All, Thank you all your reply. Actually my budget is constraint. I thought the most expensive CD player in the market is only S$200-S$1000. I am really a layman. Anyway Thank you for your response. I get to know more stuff. Hi mackie, My budget is only up to S$500.
Rameish 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2003 For $500 there are several options for new CDP: Here are two I can recommend: Marantz CD6000 OSE (nice bit has a top-end edginess) Rotel RCD-951 (nice but a bit grainny and rough when compared to the RCD-971) Used: Rotel RCD-971 (this one no longer in manufacture but still holds it's own in many regards) Older version of Marantz CD-67 maybe be a MkI CD-
Mackie 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2003 (edited) In addition to Rameish's post, the 6000 series has an offspring 6000 OSE LE which costs $425. Also in contention is NAD521i. Newer Rotel cdp such as RCD-02 costs between $500-600 and so out of your current budget. The latest marantx CD7300 also lies within the range of the latter price bracket. U can read my review on this cdp found on the "sticky" article thread. As yet, my bias goes to Marantz for its house sound (warm and mellow mids, good details but tempo is just a tad slow) and construction. Lens replacement is cheap as well. Naimed 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2003 My vote goes to the old Rega Planet if you can find one in good condition for $500.
fishball79 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2003 I'm reccomending 6000OSE LE for vocals, used Rotel 991 or 971 for rock. Both do acoustics and classical stuff pretty well. Make sure you leave abit of money for a decent pair of interconnects if you intend to hook it up to an existing stereo or a headphone amp. If you intend to use headphones directly with the cd players, i reccomend a headphone amp later on as most of the new cd players have very poor quality headphone outputs. Northern Oak 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2003 Hmmm. Where is this guy? Rameish is selling the CD6000 don't know he noticed? Dun worry. He knows. Just realised that he's my uni friend and current colleague in the same department. He's more interested in tubes stuff than solid state.
