as nofing said, get higher quality mp3s. then get a gd soundcard, i have the echo audio dj. it's pretty gd, n compact too. 0404 usb is another great choice, but much bulkier if u can afford the bulk, connect the line out to an amp. then amp to a gd set of phones. take into consideration if u want yr system to be stationary or mobile to decide wat components u need. looks like u have some way to go!

great mod! really complements yr desktop. after looking at all the tacky banana stands, sth tells me u can mass produce yours n make a nice profit... hehe.

just got it done at LHS today, instead of getting a brand new set of wires, i modded my existing silver wires which originally were 1 1/8 male -> 2 RCAs to 2 1/4 male -> 2 RCAs. they were terminated with neutrix connectors, n cost $15 total. abit ex for a simple mod, but oh well there was nobody else.

keep in mind that micro only has a headphone out, so the signal's pre-amped. so it wont save u from poor amping by micro in the 1st place. it does definitely still improve the sound, just not by as much as it could've.

sim lim really has dat kinda culture, just be wary of their tricks. if they quote some crazy price or show some phoney invoice, i'll just tell them straight "i'm here to find the lowest price. if u can offer it to me, i'll gladly get it from u. let's just lose the tricks, tell me yr lowest price pls." then i'll check out other stores n compare. they seriously look at how gullible u r, if they can jiak u, they will. if not, i believe they'd rather sell it at a decent/slightly below decent price than not make any sales at all. unless of cos u happen to piss them off, hehe. it's really stupid to engage in some lame bargaining when they already have a base price for the product. it's bordering on being hypocritical n it wastes both our time. dat aside, i always talk to them in a polite but firm manner, so i dun appear aloof. mebe i'm not such a nice guy, cos i dun bother to remember their names n all, but if the salesperson is nice to me, i'm definitely nice back to them. works both ways rite?

can't comment on duncan's pt abt the 71's sounding good wif sony products as i use the slimx, but i find the 71s sounding really bad. i sold them after a week to get the ksc 35s, n i haven't looked back. i believe enuff reviews abt the 71s have been floating around the net, esp the head-fi forums so give them a check b4 making yr decision. personally, i find even the MX500s sound alot more balanced n pleasant than the 71s. n ksc35 just blows it away. i use the aiwa vx700s for outdoor use. nothing special besides its abnormally rich mids, but u can't exactly hear the difference when out anyway.
