  1. The decision has been made, so let's just move on. There's no point harping on it. With or without the benefit of hindsight, there is obviously subtle baiting in some posts above, and as always, I think you'd be disappointed to know that we are beyond the point of taking the bait and starting another 'flamewar' as radioactive aptly put. As for loop_'s post, I am not sure which mods he's referring to, but I think I know one well-respected mod who has left/stopped posting due to personal reasons, which I implore members in the know not to discuss due to the sensitive nature of the issue. Finally, you are welcome to post/discuss anything as long as it is not against our forum rules and regulations, and of course, the law. Let's not detract any further from the spirit of this thread, which is to give kudos to those who deserve it. P.S. I speak for myself and not the administator nor the other moderators.
  2. You should get accustomed to the feeling of having something in your ear over time, just like specs.
  3. I'm no expert, but you should hear a difference if your encoded mp3 quality, earphones and amp are decent enough. True. True. IIRC the older iRiver models have line-outs. You can also get line-out docks for the iPods.
  4. The Marantz CD17 (in its various iterations) is a decent mid-range CDP for those new to Head/Hi-fi. Feel free to share your impressions with us, fu01. It does not support SACD.
  5. Many DAPs support WAV. The iPod also supports Apple Lossless playback.
  6. Like Rameish said, it will depend on your headphones and amp. If the rest of your system is up to scratch, a better source can make a substantial difference. I, for one, heard a marked improvement when I upgraded from a Marantz CD63 to the Rega Jupiter . Of course, there would be a real problem if I didn't, given the price disparity.
  7. I am tempted. Can someone PM me the price of a unit?
  8. CDs are still a physical medium and thus international shipping costs can be substantial enough to justify individual pressings for each country. Maybe not for Singapore, but the Taiwan and China markets are probably large enough. Anw, some of the China pressings I've heard do sound inferior to their Taiwan/Singapore counterparts. Yep, those who intend to get the SG version would do well to know that no lyrics booklet/artwork (other than the cover art) is included.
  9. I've had the Aria, as well as the GS-1, the bigger brother of the Gilmore Lite. The Aria was a decent amp with a neutral and accurate sonic signature, but the GS-1 was on another level in terms of clarity, detail, and PRAT. The GS-1 tend to be brighter, more analytical, and less forgiving, while the Aria did well with mediocre recordings. I personally would favour the Gilmore Lite, which some say compares favourably to the GS-1, esp. with the dedicated power supply. But I would go straight for the GS-1 if possible as that would save you from upgrading in the future.
  10. I'd agree with radioactive28. Max volume on an iPod should be more than enough for the low impedance Grado.
  11. He is one of those the new policy is aimed at, if you get my drift. As he now has less than 50 posts, he can no longer post any FS/WTS/IC/Shipping Service thread in the Classifieds. You are welcome to post in whichever forum you desire.
  12. Hansel, I see that you mean well, and I believe you are not deliberately trying to stir a hornet's nest. But I think we'll just leave things be for a while and see how it goes. We need to be fair in our policies, and deciding which new member joined solely for profiteering or not on a case-by-case basis, based on our subjective judgement, will just open another can of worms. Just see the 50 posts as a way to earn the privilege to post in the Classifieds.
  13. By all means. Actually there is a lot of related information on almost all Hifi sites/forums worldwide so I'd suggest that those interested google it themselves to get the complete picture. No. As long as they are relevant and not obscene, I don't see why not.
  14. Quite a few new triple fi owners we have here. Anyone cares to compare it with the ER4P/S?
  15. Hi hansel, thank you for your feedback, and more so, the time and effort taken to come up with such a detailed feedback at that. A point of note is that this policy is not unique to our forum, but has been implemented on many others, including Head-fi. That is not to say we are following suit for the sake of following suit. You may think this is "poor policy-making, and is extremely overbearing" but policies exist for a reason, and that reason is not to make everyone happy. And contrary to your belief, I don't see how this is "more convenient for the mods" when we could have just sat there and done nothing, but now have to manually scan and delete threads. This policy is mainly aimed at reducing the number of FS threads posted by certain members who have registered solely for the sake of selling items/services to make a profit. We have noticed an increasing number of such members in recent months, which is the main motivation behind such a move. This should not affect most of our members who will continue to have access to the Classifieds. I do not wish to turn this into a debate, but I will take you up on some points. With regards to Clemo and his MOs, he is doing a service to our members, and IF he does indeed profit from the process, the onus is on him to make this clear and for the MO participants to decide if he deserves it. In the least, he does participate in the main forums and post about LD products occasionally, which makes him a constructive poster worthy of the privilege of posting in the Classifieds. We are not against profiteering per se, but we do not want to encourage participation in the forum that solely feeds off monetary rewards. I agree wholeheartedly with you that the Classifieds "provides a very useful function of allowing headfiers to buy and sell their unwanted gear, or to give good deals", but we feel that this is a privilege that should be earned. To reiterate my point, 50 constructive posts is not that difficult to make. Our new members can start by asking questions or for recommendations, or just posting simple impressions of their gear, or even share the joy of their latest CD purchase. I, for one, think that ruminating and querying is a better way to start this hobby and gain experience, compared to buying and selling. That should come in a bit later, and 50 posts might be a good benchmark for our members. Finally, there are still an abundance of good deals around, which should not stop our members from logging in to check on them from time to time. I trust that members that fulfil the criteria still make up the majority of our active population, and it wouldn't take long for those who haven't to join the club if they make an effort. Give this policy some time, and we'll see if it's driving away members, or not. Now, it's all just pointless talk. We value feedback, and would be happy to hear any of your thoughts.
  16. Please note that with immediate effect, members are only allowed to post For Sale(FS) / Interest Check(IC) threads in the Classifieds if they have fulfilled the following criteria: Have been a member for a minimum of 30 days Have a minimum post count of 50 This is in line with our policy to encourage posting in the main forums, and prevent certain members from abusing the privilege of buying/selling gear in the Classifieds. This is, first and foremost, a discussion forum, and we hope our members see this as more than just an avenue for profiteering. Please post constructively, and refrain from mindless comments in order to increase post count. It's really not that difficult to make 50 useful posts! Due to limitations in the forum software, all members can still post in the Classifieds but the moderating team will manually delete all FS/IC Classifieds threads started by members who have not met the above-mentioned criteria. Multiple infringements will result in an increase in the warning meter, which can lead to the suspension or banning of accounts. To be fair, all FS/IC threads started before 1 April 2007 will be retained. However, their owners are not allowed to bump their threads or these will be deleted immediately. Incidentally, this is NOT an April Fools' joke. Please direct all feedback to this feedback thread.
  17. Woah. She's gonna be famous (not like she isn't already). I want the PS-1's!
  18. Did you buy the box as well? That's really pretty.
  19. I believe Grado's aren't that overpriced in Singapore because Grado imposes strict price controls on their products worldwide. In fact, you aren't supposed to get them from anyone else except your local dealers, since dealers are not allowed to ship anywhere outside their represented area/region. For that reason, TTVJ probably wouldn't ship to Singapore, unless you use vpost.
  20. If that's what they say, then great! Sennheiser is way overpriced in Singapore.
  21. Buy local: local warranty (greater assurance and peace of mind), able to audition and verify condition of gear yourself Buy online: cheaper prices I buy most of my gear (except my source) online as they are not readily or cheaply available locally.
  22. Grado has a very strict pricing policy, and MBD appears to be the sole local dealer, so it's unlikely you can get any Grado cans for cheaper at any shop. Anyway, please limit your discussions in this thread. You should only be posting headphone prices. All future irrelevant discussions will be deleted without notice.
  23. Yep, Aron got it there. Please bring your discussions to the relevant sub-forums. Any further posts detracting from the MO will be moved/deleted. Thanks.
  24. I would have stickied this thread for its useful discussions but since Rameish can do it himself, I will leave it to him to decide when the time is ripe. With regards to can recommendations, Singapura, you might also want to consider the AKG K701 which goes pretty well with the Aria.
  25. I have the newest version in black and it is markedly less microphonic than its blue & red-coloured predecessor. With the help of the clip, the problem can almost be eliminated entirely.
